The merger of Quantel and Big Sky Laser Technologies in 1998, brought about a largely complementary combination of expertise, and products especially as related to the Aerospace and Military applications and markets.
The Quantel Group continues to be involved in the design and manufacturing of advanced high-power laser diodes, flash-lamp lasers, diode-pumped pulsed lasers, and fiber-laser solutions for military and aerospace applications.
The combined experience in both military and commercial laser design and manufacturing enables Quantel to respond to the demand for Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technology as used in military systems.

Areas of Expertise
Quantel Group develops and manufactures pulsed solid-state lasers, fiber lasers, high power laser diodes, and various related accessories. These include the following:
- Diode pumped Nd:YAG laser systems plus harmonics
- Flash-lamp pumped Nd;YAG laser systems
- Space borne High-Power QCW diodes
- Space borne Nd;YAG systems
- DC power compatible (MIL-STD-1275/MIL-STD-704).

Manufacturing Facilities
The Quantel Group has production capability to build various products in low-volume (one to ten) and high volume (hundreds) quantities.
Quality control and documentation are in accordance with ISO9001/2000 and may be audited by customer appointed auditors in addition to periodic external auditing.

Testing Facilities
The Quantel Group has extensive in-house testing facilities. In addition to diagnostic tools for laser parameters measurement and control, shock and vibration test stations provide the means for qualification of laser systems to MIL-STD-810.
The in-house laser damage and exposure testing laboratory ensures that optics meet required standards for optical damage threshold, durability and finish quality. Optical density measurements may also be carried out. All results are NIST traceable. This service ensures reliability of laser optics in harsh applications and is additionally offered as a separate service.
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing, according to MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-462, may be carried out at an accredited third party testing house.

Design Capabilities
The Quantel Group's engineering departments have decades of combined experience in optical, mechanical, electrical and electronic design. The latest computer aided techniques are used, which enable thermal, mechanical stress and ray tracing analyses to be carried out.
